Indigenous people comprise only 5% of the world’s population, but protect 80% of the world’s biodiversity. Our communities constitute 50% of the cultural diversity on Turtle Island. In all corners of the earth, we are caretakers for the waters and lands we belong to. With so much of the natural world endangered today, Indigenous communities often stand alone to prevent extractive industry and ecocide. If we work together in solidarity with Indigenous land leadership, we could protect 100% of the world’s sacred biodiversity.

In the face of climate change, we must come together to envision a world for the next seven generations, and breathe it into being. Indigenous, traditional, and sustainable land practices can heal the land, the people, and open wounds of colonial history.

To repair the dispossession, and desecration of Indigenous lands, we must first return the land to Indigenous peoples.
